ANALYSIS AND VERIFICATION
Chipus performs various analysis to ensure robust functionality of the specified characteristics of designs. The standard analysis includes assurance of functionality over the entire range of operating conditions, combined with efficient but very tough analysis of process variation influence. Such analyses are possible based on simulation with standard PDKs from foundries.
Based on such analysis, Chipus provides documentation such as robustness verification reports, showing how robust the individual circuit characteristics are fulfilled, including a robustness measure of the circuit – the best assurance prior to silicon.
For the selection of IP blocks, it is often helpful to have more information than a data sheet.
To check the functionality of a block in the context of its surrounding system, it is useful to have a model of the block which can be simulated, ideally even plugged into a system and simulated in conjunction with its surrounding circuitry.
Typical models for such system level simulation are Verilog-A or SystemC models.
The level of accuracy in a model varies and the effort required for model creation depends directly on the desired accuracy.
Chipus is able to create simple models which are typically handwritten and reflecting the general electrical functionality of a block, which is sufficient for many situations. However, Chipus is also capable of numerically adding complex dependency to such models, reflecting the dependency of operating conditions such as temperature and supply voltage, and also reflecting the statical process variation of the respective process technology. Such models reflect the block behavior quite accurately while providing sufficiently short simulation times for system level simulation.
Also is possible to generate such models, not only for our own IP but for any block as well.
SYSTEM LEVEL- AND MIXED LEVEL- SIMULATION
System level simulation is needed to verify functionality and performance of a complete system IC. However, as it is a trade-off between simulation time and accuracy, such simulation often requires methodology solutions to manage the complexity of specific designs with the accuracy to detect specific potential problems. Chipus can assist in defining the right verification methodology, often consisting of mixed level simulation. Integration of silicon-proven IPs together with the customer’s or third parties IPs is another service Chipus can provide smoothly at system level for complex SoCs and ASICs.
As IP company, Chipus regularly port out IP blocks from one process technology to another.
In order to achieve this, we implement a special porting process, which enables us to perform this very efficiently, but very reliably in a very short period of time. It is possible to apply the porting process to any analog mixed-signal circuits, which enables us to port quite complex circuits or even entire libraries of blocks within a short period.
