Chipus’ CEO Murilo Pessatti was invited to participate as a speaker in the ‘Panel: Design’ of ‘Session: Technology and Manufacturing’ of the 1st SEMI South America Semiconductor Strategy Summit, that took place from 18th – 20th 2014 in Buenos Aires, Argentina (http://www.semi.org/en/node/52136). The Summit was organized in close collaboration with Unitec Blue in Argentina, and BNDES, the Brazilian Development Bank, and drew over 200 attendees and 20 sponsors. Although still in its early stages, Latin America’s high-tech industry is growing, commensurate with a rising middle class population and growing demand for consumer and commercial electronics. Brazil alone ranks in the top five markets in sales of consumer electronics, mobile phones, and computers, and outranks other BRIC regions in per capita consumption of consumer electronics. With this growing market demand as a backdrop, presentations and panels at the event focused on the opportunities, challenges, and prescriptions for the successful development of national and regional microelectronics industry supply chains in Latin America.
